Crushin’ on institutions this Valentine’s Day

Ah Valentine’s Day…the commercialized holiday for lovebirds. Chocolates, flowers, teddy bears; they’re all over department stores willing to be purchased. But hey, who said that this holiday was only for those in relationships? You’ll fall in love with these ways institutions engaged their audience on Valentine’s Day.

Love Stories

From the classroom to sporting events, there’s many ways to meet that special someone in college. LeMoyne College, Babson College and St. Michael’s College asked alumni to share their stories, and curated them as the day went on. These stories are those of love, friendship, and love of the college!

Sometimes, those semester-flings turn into true romance, and wedding bells ring! Both Skidmore College and Dartmouth College curated photos from alumni to highlight these exciting unions, or soon to be!

Custom Valentines

Remember back in elementary school when you had to make a valentine for everyone in your class? You had to carefully select what message to send each person, so not to accidentally tell someone that you LIKED them liked them? The College at Brockport, St. Lawrence University and Monroe Community College took their own spin on those old-school valentines, available for download and printing.

Celebrating on Campus

Valentine’s Day isn’t only for social media content – and on campus it’s a fun opportunity to engage the community. At Northeastern University, Paws the Husky was distributing roses to students, while students at Cornell University were treated to a chocolate fountain.

The Humanities and Social Sciences Library at the University of Florida helped those who were celebrating “singles awareness day” by setting up students on blind dates with books and DVDs. The library’s student ambassadors collaborated with the UF Hooked to the Book Club and matched 127 students with their perfect book or DVD.

Finding True Love at Your Institution

Although Valentine’s Day has its roots in hearts, roses, and chocolates, institutions can take the time to love what makes them special.

The University of Rochester shared information about 30-year long research by a psychology professor about human relationships. The story was shared on social media channels, keeping close to the theme of the day, but showcasing how the institution fits in.

University of Florida Health took the celebration to heart – tying in National Donor Day and highlighting the great work done at the campus by sharing a heartwarming video, shared nearly 100 times on Facebook.
